John Ratto (a.k.a. Jay) is the President and owner of the Long Island based, award winning landscape design & build firm, J. Ratto Landscaping, Ltd. Jay has successfully managed to bring to life the landscape visions of numerous commercial and residential clients in the three decades spanning his career. His vast knowledge of horticulture coupled with his panache for creativity is what has given him the ability to satisfy customer after customer.

In addition to attending SUNY Farmingdale University’s Horticulture program, Jay is also a PLANET Certified Landscape Professional, Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional (CNLP) and Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute (ICPI) certified. Furthermore, Jay serves as the Associate Vice President of Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI) and is serving his second term as President of Long Island Nursery & Landscape Association (LINLA). Likewise, Jay is also an active member for New York State Nursery Landscape Association, New York State Turf & Landscape Association, Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

Jay’s educational and professional background paired with his thirty-plus years of experience helped him to expand his ever-growing business.  He is firm in fulfilling his sense of responsibility to serving our community. All the while his hard work has never interfered with his ability to remain a hand’s on and proud father of four. Jay’s passion for the outdoors carries over into his hobbies where he enjoys hunting, fishing, and swimming with his family.

When Jay isn’t making landscape dreams come true, he spends time in the outdoors hunting with his boys, canoeing with his children, and playing chef for his family. Jay is also very active, participating in many community service programs which includes: Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research & Preservation where he annually donates and participates in their 5K run for Ridley & their annual “Oceans of Hope” fundraiser, donates to the Ronald McDonald House, Local School Team sponsorships, assisted in the construction of a memorial walkway at the Purple Heart Monument located at the Calverton National Cemetery for the Eagle Scouts and other various Boy Scouts of America fundraisers and projects, provided the landscape design and installation for the Town of Brookhaven 9-11 Memorial & the Innovative Stone 9-11 Memorial. These are just a few of the many charitable causes he has contributed to.
